MENSTRUAL HEALTH-AN EYE-OPENING COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROJECT

At Safiri nasi, we believe in the right of future generations having a healthy environment and natural resources that contribute to a better quality of life. No matter where you go or how you travel, you will have an impact on the environment and the people you visit. Our company also believes that you can have a more authentic and meaningful trip when sustainable tourism practices are applied.

In our efforts to realize Menstrual health sustainability, we have incorporated community outreach projects in our local tours. Our first community outreach project in 2022 is dedicated to Umoja Women’s Village in Samburu. It involves the donation of reusable sanitary towels to girls and women. Due to the inaccessibility to sanitary towels, girls miss school and women isolate themselves and avoid socializing with other women.

Menstrual health

This village began as a refuge for survivors of sexual violence and its inhabitants are thriving in the single-sex community. Umoja Village is a safe haven for Women. The members of Umoja Uaso Women Group decided to create a women-only village and reside together, thus providing collective security and cooperation. The group also dedicated itself to informing women and girls about their rights, their Menstrual health (for example, by encouraging pregnant Umoja residents to receive prenatal care), and helped them start income-generating activities for their socio-economic well being.

In our effort to support these women and girls by upholding their menstrual health and hygiene, the donation of reusable sanitary towels will not only benefit the school going girls, but also other young women to help build their self-confidence.

Menstrual health

These reusable sanitary towels have bamboo charcoal fiber that acts as a natural anti-bacterial agent which does not react with the skin causing irritation nor allergic reactions. Moreover, they last for 3 years, and this means that young girls are guaranteed to be in school for the next three years uninterrupted by “mother nature”.
By helping the girls to transition from the traditional synthetic pads to the reusable pads, we are not only supporting a local business but also saving the environment from the plastic wastes (non-reusable pads) disposed off during menstruation.
How can you help?
We would like you to be part of this Menstrual health project. Please join us in our upcoming trip to the village. By signing up to the trip, you will have donated 1 pack of reusable sanitary pads to the community.

If you will not be available on those dates or you cannot be part of the trip for other reasons, feel free to donate a pack or two, or three, or more….of the reusable sanitary towels. A pack goes for only KSH. 1000. That way, you will be part of this project remotely. This pack (as shown in the photo below) has 4 sets, i.e. a night pad, a day pad, a medium pad, and a panty liner. It also comes with a complimentary pad bag for keeping an extra pad or a used pad.
